Sherborne Abbey Wedding Photography is not something many photographers get a chance to do! I was delighted to be approached by Gareth and Anna-Marie about photographing their wedding at the breathtaking Sherborne Abbey. It would be hard to find many other venues quite so impressive, and as a massive fan of architecture, I was incredibly excited to shoot there.
The day started off with bridal preparations in the Aveda Salon in Sherborne itself. Anna was running ahead of schedule so it really was a fleeting visit before we jumped in cars and headed back to the cottage for the rest of the bridal preparations. It was a pretty relaxed bridal prep and it wasn’t long until we were all done and ready to head back to into Sherborne and Sherborne Abbey itself for the ceremony. The vicar was absolutely fantastic and we chatted through various places I could stand where I could get good shots whilst being as discreet as possible. Gareth used to play in the band at the Abbey so it meant a lot to him to get married there and it really was an amazing place to get married. Even the room for the signing of the register was beautiful, which is certainly not always the case these days.
Once the ceremony was over we headed outside for a few shots, the only real issue was the wind. We were subjected to gusts of 70mph+ which saw hats being very firmly held in position! Not quite the weather you hope for in June, but at least it wasn’t raining!
From the Abbey we headed to a nearby private school where Gareths father works. The building itself was amazing and lent itself perfectly to a wedding reception, and the grounds were utterly gorgeous. The reception was full of fun, laughter and smiles. Just how a reception should be! One little surprise was during the speeches where Gareth whipped out a guitar he had previously hidden behind some curtains to serenade Anna. I think there must have been some invisible ninjas cutting onions somewhere because there weren’t many dry eyes in the house!
The dance floor was packed from start to finish, especially for the latter part of the evening when everyone had got changed into traditional Nigerian dress and get back on the dance floor!
It was a brilliant day, lots and lots of fun and great to be part of. So much went on I had real issues trimming the blog selection down so it’s a pretty big post! If you were one of the guests, the rest of the images are available to view here, just ask Gareth and Anna for the password. If you are getting married in Sherborne Abbey and would like to discuss photography options, please get in touch! And on to the images, please feel free to comment, link or click the various +1 style buttons at the side of this post!

[…] The comments have been read, the votes counted (and there were a LOT of them!), and I can now happily say congratulations to Gareth and Anna as the photograph of their wedding at Sherborne Abbey has been chosen as the documentary wedding photography image of 2012! A very busy last few days of voting in my Wedding Photography 2012 Competition saw them extend from an early lead to finally win by a fairly substantial margin with this image of Anna, moments before walking up the aisle to marry Gareth at their Sherborne Abbey Wedding: […]
